OMRON Healthcare Opens First India Factory to Address Hypertension Crisis

OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd. has commenced full-scale production of blood pressure monitors at its first factory in India, located near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The facility, operated by OMRON HEALTHCARE MANUFACTURING INDIA Pvt. Ltd., marks a significant step in the company's local manufacturing expansion and was opened to media and stakeholders for the first time to mark the occasion. The announcement, reported via NEWMEDIAWIRE, underscores OMRON's commitment to addressing India's growing cardiovascular health challenges.

The approximately 24,000-square-meter site at ORIGINS by Mahindra houses five production lines manufacturing blood pressure monitors for the Indian market. Drawing on production technologies and quality-control expertise from OMRON's Matsusaka factory in Japan and its Vietnam facility, the Chennai plant produces the HEM-7090, HEM-7181, and HEM-7183T series to the same standards of accuracy and quality as devices supplied internationally. These models range from straightforward units for first-time users to high-end devices featuring Trend Indicator and Bluetooth connectivity with the OMRON Connect app, designed to meet local needs and price expectations.

The factory's launch comes at a critical time: approximately 300 million people in India are estimated to live with hypertension, and the World Health Organization identifies cardiovascular diseases like stroke and heart failure among the country's leading causes of death. With India's economy growing at around 7% annually, lifestyle changes are expected to further increase hypertension prevalence. Yet fewer than 5% of households have a home blood pressure monitor in regular use, and healthcare access remains limited in many regions. By strengthening domestic supply, OMRON aims to support more widespread home monitoring, earlier risk identification, and improved hypertension management.

OMRON Healthcare has operated in India since 2010, raising awareness of hypertension and collaborating with healthcare professionals, including work with the Indian Society of Hypertension on India's first home blood pressure monitoring guidelines. The company aims to increase the Chennai factory's production capacity tenfold by 2028, develop it as a supply base for international markets, and introduce nebulizer production for respiratory conditions such as asthma. This aligns with the government's Make in India initiative through local sourcing, workforce development, and job creation.

“The commencement of full-scale production in Chennai is an important step toward ensuring a stable supply of medical-grade blood pressure monitors in India,” said Ayumu Okada, President and CEO of OMRON Healthcare. “By strengthening local manufacturing and deepening collaboration with healthcare professionals and partners, we will continue to contribute to the Make in India initiative and support healthier lives for people across India.” For more information on OMRON Healthcare's initiatives, visit https://healthcare.omron.com/.
