Opawica Explorations Inc. (TSXV: OPW) (FSE: A2PEAD) (OTCQB: OPWEF) has announced a comprehensive exploration update for its 100%-owned Arrowhead Gold Property, located in the Abitibi Greenstone Belt of Quebec. The company is poised to initiate a 10,000-metre drilling program, with permits already secured for 25 drill-pad locations. This marks a pivotal moment for the property, which has been the subject of exploration for nearly a century and is now positioned for a major phase of testing.
The Arrowhead property sits adjacent to Agnico Eagle Mines Limited's LaRonde Complex, a prolific gold producer with over eight million ounces of gold produced since 1988. This proximity highlights the property's potential within an established mining district. Opawica believes that the combination of historical high-grade gold occurrences, modern drill-confirmed mineralization, and advanced geological datasets make Arrowhead a compelling exploration opportunity.
Historical exploration at Arrowhead dates back to the 1920s, involving prospecting, trenching, pitting, underground workings, and diamond drilling. Early work reported gold values of approximately 45.05 g/t Au, and chip samples have returned up to 90.75 g/t Au over 1.0 metre. These historical results, while not independently verified, underscore the property's longstanding recognition for high-grade mineralization.
What sets Arrowhead apart today is the extensive modern geological information layered over the historical data. Opawica has employed artificial-intelligence-assisted targeting, geophysical and seismic surveys, and three-dimensional geological modelling to identify 25 high-priority targets. The upcoming drill program is designed to systematically test these targets, focusing on continuity, extensions, and depth potential of known gold zones.
In 2022, Opawica completed its inaugural modern diamond-drill program at Arrowhead, consisting of 4,306 metres across 14 holes. The program confirmed gold mineralization, with 11 holes intersecting gold zones grading greater than 1.0 g/t Au along an approximately one-kilometre strike length. Notable results included 18.7 g/t Au over 0.35 metres with 0.72% Cu in hole AR-22-01, and 1.52 g/t Au over 14.8 metres in AR-22-04. The drilling identified two principal gold-bearing settings: shear zones with quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins in mafic volcanic rocks, and mineralized felsic tuffs with quartz-tourmaline veining.
Despite these successes, nine target zones from the 2022 program remain untested. The upcoming 10,000-metre program aims to address these gaps and probe deeper extensions. Opawica's management emphasizes that Arrowhead is not an early-stage concept but a property ready for scale testing.
Yvan Bussieres, P.Eng., an independent Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101, has reviewed and approved the scientific and technical information in this release. The company cautions that mineralization on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralization at Arrowhead.
The planned drilling is a significant step for Opawica, reflecting its commitment to advancing Arrowhead and potentially unlocking its full potential. With permits in hand and a clear strategy, the program could provide critical data to assess the property's economic viability.
