On June 28, 2026, the Peace Rides motorcycle group conducted their monthly ride through South Central Los Angeles, continuing a 14-year tradition of promoting peace and supporting families affected by violence. The ride, which began at a local Park & Ride and concluded at Athens Park, drew participants including a 70-year-old grandfather whose 32-year-old grandson was fatally shot following an argument. The victim, described by his grandfather as a productive community member, leaves behind 12 children.
Instead of seeking revenge, the grandfather chose to join one of the motorcycle groups participating in the monthly Peace Rides, aiming to honor his grandson's memory by fostering a more peaceful community. He accepted a copy of The Way to Happiness, a common-sense guide to better living authored by L. Ron Hubbard, and took additional copies to share with others. The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International has donated these booklets to Peace Rides events for 14 years. The booklet states, "Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities" and "And that is my wish for you: flourish and prosper!"
The Peace Rides demonstrate how communities can unite in healing rather than retaliation. The grandfather's participation underscores the importance of turning personal tragedy into a commitment to peace. For more information, visit the Church of Scientology website.
