Pure Flix Familia Launches Novelitas™, a Vertical Microdrama Channel Celebrating Faith, Family, and Latino Culture

Pure Flix Familia, the Spanish-language streaming service recently launched by Great American Media, is expanding its programming with Novelitas™, a channel dedicated to vertical microdramas rooted in faith, family, love and Latino culture. The launch matters because it brings faith- and family-centered storytelling into one of the fastest-growing entertainment formats—short, mobile-first series designed for cell phone viewing—while deepening the service's appeal to Latino audiences.

The channel debuts with three productions from Minivela, led by the original Spanish-language Christmas romantic comedy Alquilé Un Novio Para Navidad (I Rented a Boyfriend for Christmas), produced in Ecuador by Minivela in collaboration with Red Minds Films. The lineup also includes Cholita Takes L.A., a bilingual story about a Bolivian fashionista and lucha libre queen who travels to Los Angeles to reunite with her ailing Mexican-American grandmother, and Sabrina, a coming-of-age story centered on a 15-year-old resisting her family's plans for an elaborate quinceañera. All three are available on Pure Flix Familia for $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year.

“Novelitas expands our commitment to Latino families with stories that reflect their culture, traditions and faith,” said Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Great American Media. “Through our alliance with Minivela, we bring that commitment to a format designed for the cell phone that offers audiences another way to enjoy uplifting entertainment.” The implication is significant: Great American Media is positioning its faith-and-family brand at the intersection of two growing markets—Latino streaming audiences and microdramas—rather than treating them as separate niches.

Manny Ruiz, CEO of Minivela, said Latino culture offers a wealth of stories about love, family and belonging, and that the three productions bring those connections to the vertical storytelling format. Novelitas™ emphasizes sincere emotions, authentic relationships and character development, allowing the pace and duration of episodes to respond to the emotional needs of each story. The result is vertical entertainment that remains captivating and suited to binge-watching while letting audiences connect deeply with themes such as love, forgiveness, cultural identity, family relationships and faith.

The launch also creates new opportunities for filmmakers and storytellers who want to bring faith- and family-centered stories to a rapidly growing format. As the channel grows, Novelitas™ seeks to demonstrate that the future of microdramas can include not only romance and suspense but also uplifting, emotionally resonant stories that celebrate the values, relationships and traditions that matter most to families.
