A new report titled "Lithium projects Latin America" has been released by Vostock Capital, offering a comprehensive analysis of key lithium initiatives across the region. The report highlights transformative projects that are driving sustainability and growth in the lithium sector, and it was prepared ahead of the 7th International Congress Lithium Latin America, scheduled for June 4–5, 2026, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Among the projects listed is the expansion of the Fénix Project, now part of Arcadium Lithium, with an investment of $1.4 billion. The expansion aims to increase production from 18,000 to 40,000 tons of lithium carbonate annually, pending environmental assessments. Another major project is the Rio Tinto Rincón Project, valued at approximately $2.5 billion, which will produce lithium from salt brines and is part of Argentina’s plan to grow lithium production. The Kachi Project, led by Lake Resources in Catamarca, Argentina, involves a planned investment of $1.1 billion and an average annual forecast of 25,500 tons of lithium carbonate equivalent.
The report underscores the importance of these investments for Latin America, which holds significant lithium reserves critical for the global energy transition. The region is poised to become a key supplier of lithium for batteries used in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. However, the projects face challenges, including environmental assessments and economic viability. The congress will bring together heads of leading lithium operators from across Latin America to discuss project development in today’s economic realities.
