Stonegate Initiates Coverage on Fitzroy Minerals as Buen Retiro Advances Toward Development

Stonegate Capital Partners has initiated coverage on Fitzroy Minerals Corp. (TSXV: FTZ), a move that brings fresh analyst attention to a junior explorer that is beginning to outline what a mine at its Buen Retiro project could look like. The initiation is significant because it provides investors with an independent framework for evaluating the company's progress, particularly as Buen Retiro shifts from pure exploration toward a more defined development pathway.

The most consequential change since the end of the third quarter is management's first quantitative framework for a potential operation. Fitzroy has outlined a conceptual heap-leach/SX-EW operation producing approximately 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of copper annually, with estimated initial capital of roughly $120 million to $150 million and all-in costs below $2.00 per pound. While these figures remain management targets ahead of formal economic studies, they give the market its first sense of the potential scale and capital intensity of Buen Retiro. Recent metallurgical results showing 59.9% to 82.6% copper recovery across the principal material types provide initial technical support for the heap-leach concept.

Drilling has also continued to expand the mineralized footprint. The main Tenorita trend extended from 1.7 kilometers in July to 1.9 kilometers in August. Hole BRT DDH094 returned 105.0 meters at 0.74% copper, while BRT-DDH095 intersected 8.8 meters at 3.70% copper, including 1.0 meter at 21.84% copper. The 2026 drilling program has grown to roughly 22,000 meters, and resource definition remains the clearest near-term catalyst. The maiden mineral resource estimate and subsequent prefeasibility study should provide the key tests of whether the current exploration footprint can support the scale contemplated in management's development framework.

Management continues to target a possible production decision around mid-2027 and production in 2028. For a company at Fitzroy's stage, that timeline is ambitious but not implausible given the shallow nature of the mineralization and the relatively simple heap-leach concept being considered. The initiation of coverage by Stonegate, a capital markets advisory firm, may also improve the company's visibility among institutional investors. Caballos remains the higher-variance discovery option. MobileMT and deep IP surveys have identified large conductive and chargeability anomalies, and a roughly 5,500-meter Phase 2 program is planned across five holes. While Caballos is substantially earlier-stage than Buen Retiro, successful drilling could establish a second material source of value without being required for the Buen Retiro development case. That optionality is important because it means the company's investment thesis does not rest solely on one asset.

The coverage initiation matters because it arrives at a moment when Fitzroy is transitioning from a story about drill results to a story about development economics. The conceptual production targets and capital estimates give investors something concrete to weigh, even as they await formal studies. If Buen Retiro continues to deliver resource growth and metallurgical support, the path to a production decision in 2027 becomes more credible. The announcement was distributed by Reportable, Inc..
