The Storm Windows, a trio of brothers Rob Mathews (guitar and vocals), Don Mathews (upright bass and vocals), and drummer Erik Anderson, today released their new Christmas single and YouTube video, "Santa Goes to Space." The song, performed in a ballad style reminiscent of John Prine, follows Santa and Rudolph on a space adventure on Christmas night to spread the spirit of Christmas throughout the "Whole Wide Universe."
The single release event takes place on Oct 31 at The Stone Corral in Richmond, Vermont, and on Nov 1 at Tank Studio in Burlington (8:00 pm show sold out, tickets available for the 6:00 pm show at Seven Days Tickets). Recently, Spin Magazine called the trio's live performance the "Folk Ramones."
The single is available on all social media platforms. Links to the video and audio are on YouTube at https://youtu.be/VPblYA4yCEQ and Soundcloud at https://on.soundcloud.com/HmXbzhAESMP0iCk7tB.
The Storm Windows take their name from a John Prine song, reflecting their status as veteran musicians who have weathered storms. Critics have labeled their music "New Americana – a blend of folk, rock and even jazz laced sonics." The new single follows their summer 2025 EP "More Lucky," a set of summer anthems conveying hope and yearning.
This release is significant because it expands the traditional Christmas narrative into a universal message, potentially reaching broader audiences and emphasizing inclusivity. The band's unique blend of Americana and folk with a space-themed holiday song could attract new listeners and add a fresh perspective to holiday music.
