Tijuana Flats is bringing back its Cheeseburger Tacos after nearly a decade of customer and franchisee requests, and expanding the lineup with two new bun-free options. The move underscores the brand's commitment to listening to its loyal fan base, known as Flatheads, and its franchise partners as it pursues a "Bigger.Better.Bolder" brand journey under new parent company Latitude Food Group.
The Cheeseburger Tacos, priced at $10.99, feature two grilled flour tortillas filled with seasoned ground beef, queso, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, ketchup, and mustard, served with fries. The new Cheeseburger Burrito ($11.99) wraps the same ingredients in a warm flour tortilla with seasoned fries inside, toasted until golden and served with fries on the side. The Cheeseburger Loaded Fries ($9.99) top crispy fries with all the cheeseburger fixings. All three items launch on Sept. 28 at all Tijuana Flats locations across Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and Kentucky.
"Our flatheads and our franchisees never stopped asking for Cheeseburger Tacos and as we move forward on our Bigger.Better.Bolder brand journey, we knew we had to listen to them and bring it back," said James O'Reilly, CEO of Latitude Food Group, parent company of Tijuana Flats. "When we heard how high the demand was, we realized we had something special. So now we have brought the Cheeseburger Tacos back, and we created two new ways to experience that cheeseburger flavor."
The return of the Cheeseburger Taco is significant because it demonstrates how customer feedback can directly shape a restaurant's menu strategy. By responding to sustained demand, Tijuana Flats not only satisfies its existing customer base but also attracts new diners seeking innovative fusion offerings. The addition of the burrito and loaded fries further capitalizes on the cheeseburger flavor profile, offering variety without straying from the brand's Mexican-inspired identity.
For franchisees, the reintroduction represents a potential boost in sales and customer traffic. Franchisees had been vocal in their requests, and the company's willingness to act on their input strengthens the franchisee-franchisor relationship. This can lead to greater brand loyalty and operational success across the nearly 100 company-owned and franchised restaurants.
The launch also aligns with Tijuana Flats' broader growth strategy under Latitude Food Group. The new parent company, formed recently, aims to elevate the brand through bold flavors and expanded offerings. By reviving a fan favorite and innovating around it, Tijuana Flats positions itself as responsive and dynamic in the competitive fast-casual Mexican segment.
Guests can order the new items dine-in, carryout, or online at Tijuana Flats. Loyalty members, known as Flatheads, can earn points through the Flatheads Rewards app, available for download at https://qrco.de/bbUMoR. The program rewards one point per dollar spent, redeemable for exclusive rewards and deals.
