Alexandre B. de Moura, MD, and Timothy T. Roberts, MD, orthopaedic spine surgeons at New York Spine Institute, have been named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors, marking the first time they have received this prestigious designation. Only 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are chosen each year as Castle Connolly Top Doctors for their specialties in their regions.
The recognition underscores the surgeons' expertise in treating a broad range of spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis, high-grade spondylolisthesis, herniated discs, spinal cord compression, vertebral tumors, and adult spine trauma. New York Spine Institute offers comprehensive on-site diagnostics and treatment options, such as advanced digital imaging, post-operative rehabilitation resources, and coordinated multi-specialty care pathways designed to streamline the patient experience from diagnosis through recovery.
Dr. de Moura received his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School, completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Temple University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in spine surgery at NYU Medical Center. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the NYU School of Medicine and has authored numerous multi-center clinical trials on lumbar arthrodesis. Dr. Roberts earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Albany Medical College, and a spine surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at NYU Langone Health and is an expert peer reviewer for publications including Spine and The Spine Journal. Both physicians are board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Castle Connolly Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by a physician-led research team based on criteria including medical education, training, hospital appointments, and disciplinary histories. Doctors do not and cannot pay to be selected. The list is published at castleconnolly.com and in partner publications.
