tZERO Group, Inc., a blockchain-based financial infrastructure provider since 2014, provided an update on its intellectual property enforcement efforts, revealing that it has sent a cease and desist letter to Securitize, Inc. for alleged infringement of two patents. The company also identified at least six other market participants whose products likely infringe on its patent portfolio, which includes 105 patents across 23 families.
On April 30, 2026, tZERO outlined a subset of its portfolio, including patents related to self-enforcing security token compliance, upgradable security tokens, splittable security tokens, federated PII services, and crypto integration platforms. Now, the company has determined that Securitize’s DS protocol and Vault Registrar infringe on U.S. Patent Nos. 11,216,802 and 11,394,560. The cease and desist letter sent today asserts tZERO’s rights under these patents.
tZERO is also investigating potential infringement by other entities in sectors such as regulated real-world asset (RWA) platforms, institutional infrastructure, prime brokerage, decentralized sequencing, and decentralized exchanges. These investigations involve patents like U.S. Patent Nos. 11,704,733 (crypto multiple security asset creation), 11,410,159 (upgradeable security token), 11,436,673 (consolidated order book), 12,051,078 (account owner funding of KYC verification), and 12,099,996 (whitelisted transaction address verification). The company expects to send demand letters after concluding its analysis.
In addition to enforcement, tZERO highlighted additional patent families from its portfolio that support core tokenized capital markets infrastructure. These include technologies for crypto multiple security asset creation and redemption (patents US11,704,733B2 and US12,469,079B2), consolidated order books from multiple exchanges (US11,436,673B2), decentralized trading systems for fair ordering (US10,937,083B2), and obfuscation of transaction intent using cryptographic techniques (US10,552,829B2).
tZERO emphasized the importance of protecting its intellectual property as the tokenization industry scales. The company has dedicated substantial resources to develop its portfolio and will remain vigilant in defending its market position.
