UGI Utilities, Inc. announced this week the start of a natural gas main replacement project in Loyalsock Township, a move that not only enhances infrastructure reliability but also provides an opportunity for some residents and businesses to convert to natural gas. The project, part of UGI's ongoing commitment to safe and reliable service, involves upgrading underground gas mains on several streets in the township.
The construction will take place on Country Club Drive between Edercrest Road and East Third Street, Saint Davids Road between Edercrest Road and East Third Street, and Edercrest Road between Saint Davids Road and Country Club Drive. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and drivers, residents, and business owners should expect lane restrictions, detours, and parking restrictions. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service, requiring UGI to access properties to inspect and relight equipment.
Once the new natural gas main is installed, temporary restoration of the affected areas will occur, with final paving to follow at a later date. The project is significant because it not only modernizes aging infrastructure but also creates a gateway for properties along the route to switch to natural gas, which can offer cost savings and environmental benefits compared to other fuels.
