The Provincial Council of Valencia has awarded a grant to the Cultural Association El Camino del Santo Grial to promote the Way of the Holy Grail as a strategic cultural and tourist resource for the province. The aid, authorized by Presidential Decree No. 13616 on November 7, 2025, is part of the nominative subsidies included in the 2025 provincial budget. The initiative seeks to consolidate this route and integrate as many Valencian municipalities as possible into the European Cultural Route 'The Way of the Holy Grail, Route of Knowledge, Path of Peace.'
Deputy for Tourism Pedro Cuesta emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives that connect heritage, identity, European culture, and sustainable tourism development. The grant will fund promotion, communication, and dissemination activities, as well as the territorial consolidation of the route, reinforcing the presence of Valencian towns in a cultural itinerary that spans history, scientific research, spirituality, and cultural tourism.
The Way of the Holy Grail passes through 18 municipalities in the province of Valencia, starting from Algimia de Alfara and ending at the Cathedral of Valencia, which houses the Holy Chalice. This positions the province as the epicenter and culmination of the route, offering unique international visibility. The route is seen as a structural opportunity for territorial development, fostering inter-municipal cooperation and balancing rural and urban areas.
Key benefits include the diversification of tourism beyond seasonal peaks, enhancement of tangible and intangible heritage, and stimulation of local economies through accommodations, restaurants, cultural guides, and crafts. The route also promotes European values of peace, knowledge, and intercultural dialogue, aligning with the Council of Europe's Cultural Routes Programme. The consolidation of the Valencian section could strengthen future cooperation in institutional, academic, and tourism networks.
The grant is subject to a single payment after the association justifies the correct execution of actions and expenses. The association has committed to transparency and good governance. The municipalities along the route each contribute unique heritage, from Moorish hydraulic systems in Algimia de Alfara to the Roman theater in Sagunto and the royal monastery in El Puig de Santa Maria. Valencia Cathedral, housing the Holy Chalice, serves as the spiritual and cultural endpoint.
This institutional commitment marks a step forward in positioning the Way of the Holy Grail as a sustainable cultural development model, respecting local identity and heritage while projecting the province internationally.
