Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Hits First Milestone in Bayer-Funded Iodine Feasibility Study, Receives $1 Million

Voyageur Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (TSX.V: VM) (OTC Pink: VYYRF) has reached the first milestone in its non-dilutive Collaboration and Funding Agreement with Bayer AG, triggering a USD $1 million payment from Bayer. The agreement, dated February 10, 2026, supports a feasibility study for producing pharmaceutical-grade iodine from produced water in the Anadarko Basin. Voyageur's Houston R&D team successfully demonstrated its proprietary Mueller iodine extraction process, achieving 99.8% purity iodine in laboratory tests. This technical validation allowed Bayer to approve the work plan and timetable, leading to the milestone payment.

With the initial USD $350,000 paid on March 31, 2026, Voyageur has now received USD $1,350,000 of the USD $2,350,000 committed by Bayer. The funds will enable Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR) to complete the FEL-3 feasibility study once the transportable pilot plant, nearing completion, begins field operations this fall. The remaining USD $1,000,000 milestone payment is scheduled for release upon successful completion of that study.

Brent Willis, President and CEO of Voyageur, emphasized the significance: "Achievement of this first milestone under our agreement with Bayer is an important step forward for Voyageur. It confirms that the feasibility work is advancing as planned and triggers the first major non-dilutive payment under the collaboration. This capital is expected to further accelerate our iodine supply strategy and move us closer to validating a reliable North American source of high-purity iodine for use in contrast media drugs."

The project aims to produce 1,000 tonnes of iodine per year, with a staged rollout starting at 200 tonnes annually. Upon successful testing of the 200-tonne extraction unit, Voyageur may deploy additional units and expand capacity. A central manufacturing facility would process iodine concentrate into USP pharmaceutical-grade iodine for contrast drug production.

Fluor is providing engineering support, including thermodynamic modeling and project planning. Subsequent phases will progress through FEL-2 (Concept Design) and FEL-3 (Basic Design), with expected durations of four to five months and seven to nine months, respectively. This collaboration strengthens Voyageur's vertically integrated strategy to secure a domestic iodine supply, reducing reliance on imports and lowering costs for contrast media production. The global contrast media market is estimated at approximately USD $7.06 billion, according to Market Research Future.

Willis added: "Voyageur is focused on building multiple potential revenue streams through a staged commercialization strategy. This includes near-term opportunities from barium contrast sales, iodine sales under the Bayer collaboration, and longer-term opportunities from barium and iodine-based contrast drug sales." The company plans to provide further updates as feasibility work progresses.
